The Tragic Tale of the Nine-Fingered Pianist

I was attacked by a shark last Friday.

It looked remarkably like a bread knife.

And it had been such a nice day until that point, too.

See, I got out of bed áfter seven A.M. for the first time in two weeks, plus I'd had a lot of coffee, and Liszt was finally agreeing with me.

At around 14:30, however, I decided I could do with some lunch.

Cue the "Jaws" soundtrack.

I'll spare you the gruesome details. It amounted to a rather excessive amount of paper to staunch the bleeding, followed by bandages, strips of gauze, band-aids, steri-strips, iodine and a few slightly over-the-top panic attacks. I thank my lucky stars that my better half has decided it's a good idea to keep a well-stocked first aid kit in the house.

And now for the interesting part.

Will it have healed enough for me to play a concert next week...?

Honestly, I think I might be able to practice on it again by Wednesday, which should give me just enough time to finish everything in a satisfactory manner, provided I use all my mental practicing tricks in the meantime.

I have decided, however, that if I don't feel comfortable, I might throw some of the harder pieces out of the window and opt to play some extra Lyric Pieces instead.

So: great news! The concert's still on!

For those of you who've forgotten:

Sunday the 7th of February, at 16:00, in the Regentenkamer in The Hague!

And you can still reserve tickets and/or join the event here and here. Come one, come all, and watch the marvel of the weekend - the pianist who can potentially only use nine fingers!
